The slowing economy, travel restrictions, and preventive measures that minimise public gatherings have severely affected the real estate market.

Retail and hospitality have proven to be the most vulnerable to the short-term volatility and the immediate hit to demand has been evident in these two segments of the sector. Residential and office space have proven more resilient, however the exodus of foreign expatriates and the lingering travel ban is now exerting considerable downward pressure on both segments.

In 2020, a number of major projects have come online to little fanfare, adding significant space to a market that had already neared saturation at the high-end. The glut of luxury condominiums combined with the freefall on the demand-side has led to significant concerns for many in the industry for the near-term outlook.

This event will discuss the current status of Myanmar's real estate sector, taking account of COVID-19's impact while identifying areas of opportunity and the path to recovery.

The panel discussion will be moderated by Mrs. Toneya Chin, Business Development Manager at Frontier Research Myanmar (Real Estate and Construction Monitor) and the speakers are:

•    Mr. Karlo Pobre, Managing Director of Colliers International Myanmar

•    Mr. Stephen Purvis, CEO of YOMA Land

•    Mr. Lee Leong Seng, President of Singapore Association of Myanmar (SAM), Managing Director of Surbana International Consultants (Myanmar) and Managing Director of SMEC Myanmar
