According to FAO (Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations), Myanmar is an agricultural country, and the agriculture sector is the backbone of its economy. The agriculture sector contributes to 37.8 percent of gross domestic product (GDP), accounts for 25 to 30 % of total export earnings and employs 70 percent of the labour force.
