The Ambassador of France to Myanmar, H.E. Olivier Richard, led to Dawei a Trade Delegation of 12 French companies from 2-4 April in order to develop bilateral ties with Tanintharyi authorities and the local business community.
The Trade Delegation included senior executives from French companies with expertise in the Energy, Construction and Fisheries sectors (Artelia, Byma, CLS, EDF, Engie, Freyssinet, Legrand, MPH, Schneider Electric, Suez Consulting, Total and Tractebel) as well as representatives from the France-Myanmar Chamber of Commerce, the French Development Agency and the Economic and Trade Sections of the Embassy.
During these three days, the French delegation held a meeting with Tanintharyi’s Chief Minister H.E. Dr Lae Lae Maw about prospects for future investments for French companies in Tanintharyi region. Meetings were also organized with the Dawei Special Economic Zone Management Committee, DICA’s regional office and the Tanintharyi Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
On 3 April, the Trade Delegation visited Kanbauk to tour the existing infrastructures and Total’s CSR activities implemented in Tanintharyi and to learn more about the planned LNG-to power project. Following the approval in January 2018 of a major 1 230 MW project in Kanbauk promoted by the French energy leader Total, the commercial and trade relations between Tanintharyi Region and France will definitely expand in the coming years.
According to H.E. Mr. Olivier Richard, Ambassador of France to Myanmar, “France is commited to long-term engagement with Myanmar. I believe that the quality of French expertise can help Tanintharyi Region succeed in developing its local economy in a socially-inclusive and environmentally-sustainable manner.”
